Graham Cunningham

He qualified in 1976 and, having worked in-house for two US multinational companies for over twelve years, returned to private practice at the Bar. He is now with Gatehouse Chambers in Gray’s Inn and provides consultancy services to Jurit.

His legal work covers IP, IT, telecommunications, and commercial business arrangements (e.g. franchising, commercial agents, distribution and sales and purchase agreements) and related competition law issues.

He has also worked extensively overseas drafting primary and secondary legislation and other legal instruments for developing countries usually in sector specific or multi-sector regulatory matters, covering energy, communications, water and transport.

Graham commenced his career with STC Limited, the British subsidiary of multinational ITT Corporation advising on intellectual property licensing agreements covering a wide variety of hi-tech matters.

Having developed an interest in the nascent computer industry, he moved to mini-computer and word processing company, Wang (UK) Limited in 1981 as its first in-house lawyer.

He set up a successful legal department in a challenging highly sales-orientated environment. He then became the legal director, company secretary and a member of the management team. This wide corporate experience allows him to bring a commercial perspective to client problems in his current position as a barrister.

His work now embraces both litigation and mediation (and other ADR) work. He is a CEDR Accredited Mediator and has conducted several dozen mediations in IT, telecoms, IP, and professional negligence matters.

In private practice, he has had several lengthy secondments to IT companies including Hewlett Packard, PwC Consulting (now IBM), Research Machines, Energis and Bull Information Systems.
